AVANDIA® (Rosiglitazone)

On February 20, 2010, the Senate Finance Committee released a report asserting that there was strong evidence that AVANDIA®, a drug used to treat diabetes, is correlated with an increased risk of heart attacks and heart failure. More disturbingly, the Senate Finance Committee found that the totality of the evidence suggests that manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) was aware of the possible cardiac risks associated with AVANDIA® years before they became public knowledge, but breached its duty to the American public by trying to downplay or conceal such facts.

"Americans have a right to know there are serious health risks associated with Avandia, and GlaxoSmithKline had a responsibility to tell them," said Committee Chairman U.S. Senator Max Baucus, (D) Montana. "Patients trust drug companies with their health and lives and GlaxoSmithKline abused that trust."

The FDA has estimated that between 1999 and 2007 AVANDIA® has caused approximately 83,000 excess heart attacks.

If you or a loved one have experienced a heart attack, stroke, congestive heart failure, cardiovascular disease or if you have lost a loved one who was taking AVANDIA®, you may be entitled to compensation.
